About Us

We are a not-for-profit cafe, a registered charity and a Social Traders certified social enterprise. We believe in eating well, for good.

Our in-house training program delivers capacity building & community for volunteers from all walks of life. Regardless of whether you are dining in, taking away or supporting the business in other ways, you are creating social impact.

Our story actually starts in 2010, at the now closed Kinfolk Cafe on Bourke Street. Kinfolk was our flagship social enterprise cafe, and queues for a table were matched by a wait list to volunteer - upwards of six months!

To meet the demand, we conceived of a "sibling cafe". In late 2018 Sibling opened and is now home to Kinfolk's ethos, operations and volunteer program. Nominated twice in a row by Time-Out, for "Best Cafe" and "Best Restaurant Grocery Delivery", Sibling has earnt a reputation for good food, that does good. Our scratch kitchen makes many ingredients in-house, and we work with local & sustainable suppliers to create a produce-driven menu.

We invite you to become a part of our vibrant community where staff, volunteers and customers all contribute to the social fabric. Dine in, takeaway, donate, purchase something from our pantry section or even host an evening event. Everything feeds back into the social impact of our volunteer program. Your support as a customer and donor enables this meaningful work. Thank-you!

We're certified.

"Serving the warm fuzzies with its brunch since 2010, CBD cafe Kinfolk has taken over the former 1950's textile factory in Carlton North to spread it message of social inclusion (volunteers receive job training and an invaluable sense of belonging), charity ... and excellent, on-trend food. Even as a purely for-profit cafe it would be worth seeking out. That this crowdfunded space wears its heart on its sleeve and puts a whole lot of good into the world lifts it to cafe-hero status."
